Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib marks the spot where Sahibzada Zorawar Singh (9) and Sahibzada Fateh Singh (6), the younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh, were sealed alive inside a brick wall on the orders of the Mughal Governor Wazir Khan for refusing to convert. The name Fatehgarh — 'Fort of Victory' — was given by Banda Singh Bahadur after he sacked Sirhind in 1710 to avenge them. The sprawling white-and-gold complex today includes Bhora Sahib (the actual brick chamber), Mata Gujri's cell, and Gurdwara Bibangarh where the bodies were cremated.
The site is quieter than the Golden Temple and carries a distinctly reflective mood — visitors often leave in tears after descending into the underground Bhora Sahib. Come between visits to the Takhts of Anandpur Sahib (75 km) and Kiratpur, ideally on a weekday morning. During Shaheedi Jor Mela in late December, hundreds of thousands gather in freezing weather to honour the martyrdom; expect all roads within 3 km to be closed to private vehicles and shuttle buses to run from Sirhind station.
